• Meta set a Scope 3 emissions target. Then it blew past it and called it fluctuation.

• Meta's Scope 3 emissions sit 44% above the 2021 baseline its own target requires it not to exceed by 2031. That's a trajectory moving in the opposite direction of a public commitment which is described in the formal report as fluctuation.

• Here's what drives it: Meta spent $72 billion on data center infrastructure in FY2025. Capital goods which are the physical build of servers like hardware and facilities account for 63% of its Scope 3 emissions. That number appears nowhere in Meta's sustainability communications. The company disclosed the capex in its financial filings. It chose not to connect those dots in the sustainability report.

• This is a pure arithmetic omission. The numbers are real, Meta filed them. It just filed them in separate documents, in separate language and for separate audiences.
